Pre-Doctoral Fellow
American Studies is pleased to welcome Elena Gonzales to Northwestern University as a visiting scholar. She is a fourth year doctoral candidate in American studies at Brown University, where she received her Master's in public humanities in 2010. Her research and projects focus on curatorial work for social justice. Her dissertation will chart a history of this type of work since 1970 and also offer best practices and curatorial tactics for practitioners. Since beginning her graduate work, Elena has co-curated of two exhibitions, worked at the National Museum of American History and the Anacostia Community Museum at the Smithsonian, and taught a curatorial studies seminar for undergraduates. Prior to graduate school, Elena worked for the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, where she curated the companion exhibition to The African Presence in México.
